CALLING ALL PATENT LAW PRACTITIONERS and CALLING ALL INNOVATORS

For the third year in a row, Cardozo’s Intellectual Property Law Society (‘IPLS’) has been chosen as the New York City host of the World Intellectual Property Organization's World IP Day! WIPO recently announced the global theme for the event, which is Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity.

To not only celebrate but advance this theme, IPLS will proudly introduce the Cardozo/Google Project for Patent Diversity, a project funded by a $200,000 grant from Google.  The goal of the Project is to increase the number of U.S. patents issued to women and minorities.  Professor Jeanne C. Curtis joined Cardozo’s nationally-ranked IP program to spearhead the effort.  At World IP Day, Professor Curtis will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss the Project as well as other initiatives underway across law, business, and policy that are directed to achieving parity in innovation and creativity; the social and economic benefits of achieving parity; and the ways each and every one of us on a daily basis can help effect change.  Our goal is to educate and create awareness about the issues that exist and solutions being engineered.  We also hope to attract innovators that the Project can help as well as legal practitioners, businesses, and other organizations who can contribute to the Project, so please help us spread the word!

We won't just be celebrating "Powering change: Women in innovation and creativity", we're actively working at it. Be there, take part.

A fun and interactive IP law game is also on the agenda, with no previous IP or legal experience required to play and win.

We hope to see you there! Click here to reserve your free ticket(s)!

CLE Diversity and Inclusion credits may be available.  Please register for the event, which is free, to receive email updates regarding CLE credits.

The Future of Net Neutrality and Broadband Privacy

  • Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Dean's Conference Room (Rm 1008) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our Cardozo IPIL partner organization, the Cardozo Data Law Society (CDLS), has graciously extended the following invitation to IPLS members, friends, and family:

In April, 2017, Congress voted to repeal the FCC Broadband Privacy rules, which would have required cable and telecom companies to give customers more choices about how their data can be collected, used, and shared.

In December, 2017, the FCC voted to repeal the Net Neutrality rules, which prohibited cable and telecom companies from blocking or slowing down any websites or apps. The Net Neutrality rules also prohibited broadband providers from striking special deals that would give some websites or apps "priority" over others.

What do these recent repeals mean for consumers and the economy? How should policymakers respond?

Join Cardozo Data Law Society (CDLS) on Thursday, March 15th, 6 - 8 pm, in room 1008 for a panel discussion on these issues. Panelists include Felix Wu (Professor, Cardozo Law)James Sherer (Partner, Baker Hostetler), Peter Micek (General Counsel, Access Now), and Nicholas Hoenemeyer (Corporate Counsel, Choice Logistics). 1.5 CLE credits. A reception with drinks and food will follow.
